This year’s Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival includes a fun array of dark, demonic, and plain wacky short films screening at 7:00 PM on Friday, November 24, at the Royal Cinema. Here are highlights from the program:
Fun
Directed by Greg Kovacs
In which chipper Anna and muppety puppet Ellery give television audiences a brief but potent demonstration on “fun” … with gory results. Be warned when you watch this luridly playful soupçon of perversity — you’ll never view Sesame Street the same way again.
Even the Darkness has Arms
Director: Chris Bavota
A man struggling with insomnia is haunted by his fears made tangible. Short, creepily ambient, and impactful, this film gives a whole new meaning to night terrors and leaves enough to your imagination to truly scare the hell out of you.
Don’t Click
Director: Ghey Kim
In this low-fi parable, a man gets more than he bargained for when he watches a snuff film. This film is a shrewd take on voyeurism and violence against women that doesn’t hammer you over the head with moralizing.
Timebox
Director: Daelan Wood
Two brutish men find a time machine in the woods and stage a game in which they hunt each other endlessly. Watch this film for its striking forest shots and strong visual storytelling.
Bestia
Director: Gigi Saul Guerrero
A man awakes on a deserted beach to find himself the lone survivor of a massacre. A stunning, visceral film rife with colour-soaked visuals, tight sequencing, and a clever, allegorical twist that will blow your mind.

A residential school survivor confronts the darkness within him … as it takes on the shape of the mythical Wendigo. A heartbreaking story featuring an outstanding performance from lead actor Julian Black Antelope.
